Export of rubber-based products is expected to rake in about RM 18.5 billion this year.
According to Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, it will be driven by higher usage of disposable medical gloves.
The Ministry, he said, would continue to encourage the production of more higher value-added items, particularly downstream products such as disposable rubber gloves.
For January to June, export of rubber-based products rose 4.2 percent to RM 8.82 billion, compared to the same period last year, with the United States, European Union and Japan accounting for 60 percent of Malaysia’s total rubber exports.
Last year, revenue of rubber-based products increased to RM 18 billion with rubber gloves, being the main export item, accounting for RM 13.1 billion.
